Jay is a native of Malone, NY where he grew up playing in the Malone Minor Hockey Association and attending Franklin Academy High School. While he was at Franklin Academy he was a three sport varsity athlete receiving Section X All-Northern Awards in each sport.

In hockey Jay holds all the school’s scoring records with 126 goals and 117 assists. He was selected Section X Hockey MVP his sophomore and junior years at Franklin Academy. He led the league in scoring two years 1992-93(45 goals-42 assists) and 1993-94(49 goals-43 assists). He was also a member of the 1991 team that went to the state finals. Jay’s Franklin Academy jersey and number were retired by the school hockey program in 1996.

After his junior year Jay attended Taft Prep School playing hockey 1994 through 1996. After graduating from Taft Prep School he then attended Yale University playing hockey there from 1996 through 2000. Following his graduation from Yale University he played professionally for the Heerenveen Flyers in Holland 2000-2001.

Jay lives in Larchmont, NY with his wife Kate and their three sons Connor, Tommy, and Tyler.  He is currently "giving back to hockey" as a Mite Coach for the Mamaroneck Youth Hockey Association were he has done a tremendous job in promoting a real love of the game at this young age.

 

Jay was inducted into the New York State High School Hockey- Hall of Fame, March 2014, for his dedication to the sport as a truly great player who has contributed noteworthy service to New York State high school hockey.
 
 

The New York State High School Hockey- Hall of Fame, located in the Lake Placid Olympic Center's '80 Rink hallway,  recognizes former outstanding Players, Coaches and Teams that have contributed noteworthy service to New York State high school hockey.
