 NEW YORK STATE HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY- HALL OF FAME CLASS OF 1999


 David MacLennan-  (Holy Family Massena 1961-75)
   


 

According to long-time broadcast partner Jerry Manor, “Coach Dave MacLennan has forgotten more about hockey than I will ever know.”  MacLennan, a Massena Central and SUNY Potsdam graduate taught in the Massena Central School District for 36 years.  He coached baseball and hockey at Massena’s Catholic high school, Holy Family from 1961 until the school closed in 1975, amassing over 200 wins.  MacLennan also coached varsity softball at Massena High School for 26 years.  He helped in getting the SUNY Potsdam men’s hockey program off the ground as head coach from 1976 – 79.  MacLennan was also instrumental in the success of Massena Minor Hockey, coaching in the organization for 20 years.  He is well-known as a “student” of whatever sport he coached and was renowned for his ability to defeat more talented opposition due to coaching strategy.

Dave MacLennan has always lent his talents to the community having served on the St. Lawrence County Legislature.  He is currently (2015) Chairman of the Massena joint Recreation Commission, a member of the Massena Memorial Hospital Board of Managers (past Chairman,) a member of the Rose Hill Adolescent Chemical Dependency Program Board, and a member of the Massena Free Clinic for Adults Board.  Along with his induction into the New York State High School Hockey Coaches Hall of Fame, MacLennan is a member of the Massena High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Coach Dave MacLennan has offered expert commentary as part of the Massena Red Raider hockey broadcasts on WMSA Radio for the past 27 seasons.  He and his wife Connie have 4 daughters and 11 grandchildren.

David was inducted into the New York State High School Hockey- Hall of Fame, March 1999, for his dedication to the sport as a truly great coach who has contributed noteworthy service to New York State high school hockey.
 
 

The New York State High School Hockey- Hall of Fame, located in the Lake Placid Olympic Center's '80 Rink hallway,  recognizes former outstanding Players, Coaches and Teams that have contributed noteworthy service to New York State high school hockey.
