 NEW YORK STATE HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY- HALL OF FAME CLASS OF 2012


 Dave Litz-  (Clinton 2001-08)

Dave Litz was born and raised in Clinton, NY. He began playing hockey in Clinton at the age of five. In 1982 Dave served as Captain of his high school hockey team under legendary Coach Bernie Burns.

After High School Dave would go on to play professionally from 1984-1989. He played in both the ACHL and ECHL for The Mohawk Valley Stars, Mohawk Valley Comets, Erie Golden Blades, New York Slapshots, Knoxville Cherokees and The Virginia Lancers.

Dave returned to Central New York and settled back in his home town of Clinton. He started coaching youth hockey and dealt primarily with the Pee Wee and Bantam level for several years. In 1999 Dave became the Assistant High School Hockey Coach under Fran Alteri; and in 2001 Dave took over as Head Coach.

During the next seven seasons Litz’s teams captured three Section III titles (2004-2005, 2005-2006, and 2006-2007) and back to back Division II state titles in 2005 and 2006 with identical records of 26 wins, 1 Loss and 3 Ties (a Clinton High School record).

Dave was selected as Section III “Coach of the Year” in both 2001-2002 and 2006-2007. Following the 2004-2005 season Litz earned the honor of “NYS Coach of the Year”. In 2007, Dave Litz capped off a successful coaching career by being named to the Kirkland Hall Of Fame. His overall record in seven seasons: 139 wins, 40 losses and 11 ties (a winning percentage of 73%)

Dave still resides in Clinton with his wife Karen, daughters Jenna and Hannah and his stepson Dave Smith. He works for Clinton Moving & Packaging, Inc. and also serves on the Board for the “Greater Utica Professional Hockey Association” Dave is still passionate about taking kids to the next level and he volunteers for Clinton Youth Hockey running Clinics and Hockey schools.

Dave was inducted into the New York State High School Hockey- Hall of Fame, March 2012, for his dedication to the sport as a truly great player and coach who has contributed noteworthy service to New York State high school hockey.
 
 

The New York State High School Hockey- Hall of Fame, located in the Lake Placid Olympic Center's '80 Rink hallway,  recognizes former outstanding Players, Coaches and Teams that have contributed noteworthy service to New York State high school hockey.
